Clippings from the Garden

posted 28 September

Where did the summer go? A question that we've been contemplating for the last four months! Suddenly we are at the end of the season and about to put Explorers to bed for the winter.

As you are reading this, thousands of visitors are enjoying the spectacle of the Enchanted Forest. Having it set up in the Explorers garden has been quite an undertaking but we hope that those entranced by the paths by night, will be encouraged to come back during daylight hours next year!

The Explorers volunteers continue to make a major contribution to the operation of the garden. Thanks to the Kiosk volunteers, the Garden Tour guides and those who get 'down and dirty' in the garden, it has been another successful season and already we are looking forward to next year to observe the continued growth and changes.

We would welcome more volunteers in all roles in the garden and maybe you would consider making 2012 the year that you will volunteer. If you want to get out for fresh air and exercise during the winter months, we continue with the gardening, weather permitting, and would love to have more help. Thank you if you have visited Explorers during the 2011 season. It is hoped that you will continue your support in 2012. Maybe you would consider purchasing a season ticket to enable you to visit at any time to witness the changes that ensue.

The Garden closes for the winter on November 6th and will re-open at the beginning of April 2012.

Plant Hunters

Hunters History

The Plant Hunters were not just botanists, they were adventurers and explorers. They had to be tough to survive the conditions they faced in far-flung corners of the world. They survived shipwrecks, sieges and slavery and battled with pirates, escaped convicts and hostile natives.
