| End of an Era as Garden Tour Guide Retires |
|
John Dick, a much loved (and always kilted!) tour guide
at Explorers Garden, Pitlochry has hung up his sporran after ten years and 240 Garden tours. Popular amongst locals and visitors alike, his tours were packed with the stories and adventures of the Scottish Plant Hunters as well as all things botanical. "I would like to thank John for all his help over the years, he will be sorely missed" said Explorers Garden Volunteer Co-ordinator Glenda Rudd, continuing "and we wish him all the best with his retirement!"
John was presented with a print of a red squirrel (of which there are many in the Garden) by artist Anne Chambers. The original picture was commissioned by Explorers Garden and features one of the resident squirrels. Garden tours continue throughout the Summer months every Wednesday and Sunday at 11.30am. "We are always on the look out for volunteers for the garden, including tour guides!" added Glenda, "If you would like to follow in the footsteps of John Dick, please get in touch or come along and take a tour - it's not often you get to traverse all the continents in a single afternoon!" |
