MOYRA RODD grew up in the mining valleys of South Wales. From an early age she had a passion for the seaside with its colour and freshness, a complete contrast to her home environment. Most of her paintings are seascapes and reflect this fascination with the sky, sea and sand. She completed her Teachers training course in the early 70s and took Art as her major subject. She taught art for 11 years in Grantham, Lincolnshire but then switched to Primary teaching when she came to live in Scotland. She did not take up painting seriously until after her retirement. She works mainly in acrylics and uses a limited palate with a depth of paint, sometimes 4 or 5 layers to focus on colour and sense of place. The emptiness, grandeur and light of the West Coast of Scotland have been her inspiration for this exhibition. She has sold her work in art exhibitions in Crieff, Perth & Dunkeld over the past few years. Â Â Â Â |
"When staying in Pitlochry during the early part of the war, I chanced to see a stately house with a fairly large garden, quite close to the town. I at once realised that here my dream theatre might well be established in this fashionable resort right in the heart of Scotland"… John Stewart, Founder of Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
