A Weekend of Opera

Swansea City Opera return rom-op_sco-backto the Pitlochry stage this weekend. The captivating new production, A Night of Romantic Opera (on Friday 13th April) will feature music from some of the most loved composers, including Puccini, Verdi, Bizet, Mozart and many more.

A Night of Romantic Opera offers an enchanting evening of arias and ensembles with piano accompaniment, performed by a carefully selected cast of singers from the major national and international opera houses.

Known to many audiences (including our own!) for his popular shows Mozartissimo and A Viennese Whirl, the evening will be hosted by the charismatic Brendan Wheatley (SCO’s Artistic Director), who will introduce the ravishing music of the great romantic composers in his own inimitable style.

A Night of Romantic Opera

Then on Saturday 14h April, Swansea City Opera will perform, in English, with elegant, classical 19th century costumes, Mozart’s hugely popular comic opera Così Fan Tutte which contains some of his most heartfelt, poignant and romantic compositions, including several famous arias and ensembles you are sure to know and love.

cosi-fan-tutte_backA comic tale of deception, doubt, devotion and all the intricate twists and turns that inevitably go with a romantic tale of love, Così Fan Tutte tells the story of how a cynical old man (Don Alfonso) leads two naïve officers into a scandalous wager, in order to prove that it is against a woman’s nature to be faithful: ‘Così fan tutte’ – ‘they`re all like that’. As the story unfolds, we see just how well he succeeds: at first the women are unwilling, but later . . . well, you’ll have to wait and see!

Featuring some of the finest singers and orchestral players in the country, Swansea City Opera have a matchless reputation for professional, high-quality opera and we’re delighted to welcome them back. Così Fan Tutte promises to be an hilarious, enchanting evening’s entertainment – make sure you don’t miss out!

From 1951 to the 21st Century...

Discover our history "When staying in Pitlochry during the early part of the war, I chanced to see a stately house with a fairly large garden, quite close to the town. I at once realised that here my dream theatre might well be established in this fashionable resort right in the heart of Scotland"… John Stewart, Founder of Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
