Kiss Me, Kate opens Summer Season

The smash-hit musical comedy masterpiece Kiss Me, Kate opens the Summer Season at Pitlochry Festival Theatre on Friday 14th May.

Romantic, touching and hilariously funny, with a classic Cole Porter score, Kiss Me, Kate will feature a large cast of seventeen actor musicians and is directed by PFT's Chief Executive and Artistic Director John Durnin.

BaltimoreKiss Me, Kate, 1948: after a string of flops, actor-manager Fred Graham desperately needs his new musical adaptation of The Taming Of The Shrew to be a hit. But while Fred's opinion of his own talents is sky-high, he knows only one thing can guarantee success: a great, big star.

Unfortunately, the only star Fred knows is Lilli Vanessi, legendary diva, Hollywood icon . . . and his ex-wife.

As rehearsals progress, Lilli playing Kate opposite Fred's Petruchio, each begins to remember, with a passion bordering on the homicidal, just why they got divorced in the first place . . .

Meanwhile, Fred has fallen under the spell of nightclub singer Lois Lane, and has cast her, and her dancing partner, Bill, in the show. But chronic gambler Bill owes a fortune to some heavyweight mobsters. And to escape their clutches, Bill signs a $10,000 IOU - in Fred Graham`s name . . .

On opening night, Fred sends Lois a fabulous bouquet - which mistakenly gets delivered to Lilli. Her heart melting, Lilli`s old feelings for Fred come flooding back . . . until she discovers that Lois was the intended recipient . . . just as two goons turn up to collect Bill`s debt - from Fred . . .

This summer, make a date with Kate!

Kiss Me, Kate (preview) opens on May 14th, 8.00pm and will play in repertoire until 16th October. Tickets are available from box office: 01796 484626 or click here.

From 1951 to the 21st Century...

Discover our history "When staying in Pitlochry during the early part of the war, I chanced to see a stately house with a fairly large garden, quite close to the town. I at once realised that here my dream theatre might well be established in this fashionable resort right in the heart of Scotland"… John Stewart, Founder of Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
