Man standing up in open top carFrom an almost endless list, here are a few Perthshire highlights you might like to try:

Whisky & Heritage

There are several excellent visitor attractions in the area such as Dewar’s World of Whisky, located in Aberfeldy, it’s within pleasant driving distance of Pitlochry. If books are your thing, try browsing our growing range of titles in the Festival Shop. Alternatively, make your way to the Watermill Bookshop whilst you’re in Aberfeldy. Blair Castle also provides an excellent day out. The ancient seat of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl houses a great display of arms and armour, as well as extensive collections of porcelain, paintings and period furniture.

Walking

Governess and school girls on a day outThere are over thirty way-marked walks in the local area. Park up and study your route – most car parks have display boards and of course leaflets are available from all Tourist Centres, including Pitlochry. Make sure you take in Queens View – the favourite viewpoint loved by Queen Victoria, who regularly visited highland Perthshire!

A good site to visit in advance or on the day is Perthshire Walks

If your feet get sore or you tire of walking, there’s help at hand – hire a car!

Wildlife

Throughout Perthshire, you’ll glimpse everything from red grouse and red deer to red squirrels and leaping salmon, as well as osprey, herons and dippers whilst in the area. Located beside the Theatre is Explorers Garden, a celebration of the Scottish Planter Hunters. Make sure you walk in the footstep of these intrepid explorers during your stay. You will encounter wildlife, exotic plants and stunning architecture.

History

From 1951 to the 21st Century...

Discover our history "When staying in Pitlochry during the early part of the war, I chanced to see a stately house with a fairly large garden, quite close to the town. I at once realised that here my dream theatre might well be established in this fashionable resort right in the heart of Scotland"… John Stewart, Founder of Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
