Artistic Director’s Gang

Step right into the heart of the Theatre and play a genuinely meaningful role in what happens next.

The Artistic Director’s Gang gives you direct access to our Artistic Director, Alan Cumming: a chance to hear first-hand about the ideas, the risks, the projects and the productions being dreamed into life. This is intended to be a genuine exchange, a space to share your thoughts, instincts and curiosity, and where your voice can be part of the life of the Theatre.

“I like to engage with as many people as I can who enter our beautiful building and ask them how they’re doing, what they’re feeling about coming to work or visiting our space because I genuinely want to find out what they think and how I can learn from their opinions. Now I want to do that with you.

You see, the theatre is a collaborative art form. Yes, there may be a writer or an actor or a director whose fame or skill lures you into attending a show, but there is a whole team of people who make it possible for them to shine. That’s why I’m so excited about my Gang!

Being a member of the Gang is about dialogue, it’s about me telling you my ideas of who and what I’m hoping to bring to the Highlands, and the status of various projects over the coming years. And in turn, I’d like to hear what you think of them and use you as a sounding board and touchstone.”

Alan Cumming, Artistic Director

The Future Made Here

Pitlochry Festival Theatre is one of Scotland’s last remaining end-to-end producing theatres, where everything is made in house, from the first spark of an idea to the final curtain call. Stories are conjured, built, rehearsed and brought to life in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.

As the Theatre looks ahead to the next 75 years, we are determined not simply to survive but to flourish and bloom as a truly inclusive Theatre for All.

To do that, we are focusing on three bold ambitions;

CREATE outstanding live theatre

This anniversary season, we’re making our productions truly exceptional. Our landmark programme unites leading directors, designers and performers – including Tony and BAFTA-recognised artists – championing home-grown Scottish talent alongside international names. 2026 sees expanded in-house craftsmanship and ambition, every production reflects our commitment to bold, joyful and distinctive theatre.

ENABLE sustainable creative careers, and bold new writing

As we mark 75 years of theatre-making, we are also investing in the artists who will shape its future. We are expanding the opportunities for creatives to develop their work, and their careers. By committing to new commissions, increased development time, script-in-hand readings, we will give artists the space to test ideas and bring new stories to life. Additionally, by commissioning new work and supporting artists at early- and mid- career stages, we help strengthen the wider theatre sector and ensure fresh Scottish voices continue to reach audiences at home and beyond.

SHARE the benefits of theatre with our communities

Through our young people and schools programmes, we introduce theatre through workshops, performances and creative play – often providing these young people with their first experience of live performance, offered for free or low cost. Community participation is central to our work, from large-scale productions involving local people to informal gatherings, outdoor events and shared experiences. Together, these activities celebrate the communities who have shaped the Theatre over the past 75 years and ensure it remains a true Theatre for All.

As a member of the Gang, you won’t just hear about this future. You’ll help shape it.
