Programming at Pitlochry Festival Theatre:
When selecting work for production, we consider plays that can be staged in the following spaces:
• Main Auditorium (seats 538)
• Studio Theatre (seats 172)
• Outdoor Amphitheatre (seats 120)
• Explorers Garden Space (for site-specific or promenade performances)
We seek work that is innovative, engaging, and suited to the unique possibilities of our performance spaces.
Our primary focus is on fully staged productions. While we accept one-act plays, we prioritise scripts suitable for full production in our Main Auditorium or Studio Theatre.
Development & Support Opportunities:
We are committed to supporting playwrights in developing new work through:
• The Writers ’Room – A space for playwrights to develop ideas with mentorship and peer support.
• Rehearsal Space – Opportunities for writers to workshop scripts with actors and directors.
• Artist in Residence Scheme – Longer-term development support for selected playwrights.
If your play isn’t ready for programming or you are a first-time playwright and you would like feedback, Playwrights’ Studio Scotland offers a National Play Reading Service year-round.
