Alan Cumming
Join us for an illuminating and entertaining conversation with Alan Cumming— actor, author, activist, and our very own Artistic Director.
One of Scotland’s most globally recognised performers, Alan has carved out an extraordinary career across stage, screen, and page. From Hollywood blockbusters to trailblazing theatre roles, from bold political commentary to intimate memoir, he moves effortlessly between genres, continents, and creative worlds. His bestselling memoirs revealed a voice as compelling on the page as onstage, blending candour, humour, and emotional depth to explore identity, art, and the complexities of life in the spotlight.
In this special event, Alan reflects on living a life at full creative tilt. Touching on the people that have shaped him, the stories behind his iconic roles, the causes he champions, and the ongoing artistic journey that keeps him curious, restless, and brilliantly unpredictable. Expect wit, fearless honesty, and the magnetic charm that has earned him admiration around the world.
In this rare conversation, Edinburgh’s Makar and one of Scotland’s most inventive literary voices, Michael Pedersen, steps into the interviewer’s chair, guiding a warm, lively, and wide-ranging discussion complete with hand-picked clips from Alan’s eclectic body of work, sparking fresh reflections and unexpected stories. Together, they’ll explore Cumming’s creative journey, his inspirations, the highs and hurdles of an international career, and the art of staying daringly, defiantly original.
