Literary Lunch with Gareth Cole

13 Feb 2026

Join Gareth Cole for a memorable lunch event featuring his dishes from Café Canna, inspired by his remarkable restaurant on the tiny Isle of Canna in the Hebrides.

Resourcefulness defines the café’s food philosophy. Cole’s team draws almost everything from the surrounding landscape and sea: pristine seafood from local boats, foraged seaweeds, meat from neighbouring fields, vegetables from the garden, fruit from the orchard, daily baked loaves, and even their own small-batch beer. The menu is wonderfully inventive, with dishes ranging from seaweed croquettes and rich crab bisque to Canna beef pies, gorse-scented crème brûlée, nettle spanakopita, and Singapore chilli Canna crab.

Gareth’s book is both a tribute to Café Canna and a portrait of the resilient island community that sustains it. With more than 70 recipes, he reveals the depth and creativity of island cooking — all designed for adventurous home cooks eager to bring a taste of the Hebrides to their own kitchens.
