My Grandparents Were Dinosaurs

with Anne and Steve Brusatte

This event has passed

What if we told you that today’s birds are actually dinosaurs? It’s true! In this lively event for families, author Anne Brusatte and palaeontologist Steve Brusatte will tell the story of how birds evolved from ferocious meat-eating dinosaurs millions of years ago. They will read their new children’s book My Grandparents Were Dinosaurs, give a presentation about the real fossils of feather-covered dinosaurs that Steve and his colleagues dig up and study, and then lead children in an art project to ‘dinosaurify’ a chicken, imagining what fantastic colours and patterns dinosaurs might have once flaunted.

Anne and Steve are a wife-and-husband, author-and-scientist team.

Anne taught primary school for over ten years in two countries and is very used to children knowing far more about dinosaurs than she ever will. She is the author of Dugie the Dinosaur, the first children’s book about Scottish dinosaurs, and lead author of My Grandparents Were Dinosaurs.

Steve is a palaeontologist who hunts and writes about dinosaurs. He is a Professor at the University of Edinburgh, but grew up in the Midwestern USA. He has named and described more than 20 species of dinosaurs and other fossils, written the Sunday Times bestselling popular science book The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs, and is the palaeontology consultant for the Jurassic World film franchise and BBC’s Walking With Dinosaurs. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
