Val McDermid – 40 Years of Plotting
Join bestselling crime writer Val McDermid as she celebrates 40 years since debut Report for Murder, which introduced Lindsay Gordon, the first out UK lesbian detective. The event explores the creation and enduring legacy of the Lindsay Gordon series, which went on to span six novels and has remained in print since its original publication. With the books newly reissued by HarperCollins, McDermid reflects on four decades of writing, the evolution of crime fiction and the importance of representation in literature.
The event is hosted by Kezia Dugdale, a champion of LGBTQIA+lives and passion for culture and literature. Through their conversation, Kezia will reflect on how Val’s work has shaped and inspired her own work, highlighting the real-world impact of authentic representation.
Kezia Dugdale is the Chair of Stonewall UK and the former Leader of the Scottish Labour Party. In her day job, she brings academics and policy-makers together to work on complex and wicked problems as a Professor of Practice at the University of Glasgow.
