When Billy met Alasdair
A new play charting the meeting of two Scottish icons: Billy Connolly & Alasdair Gray
Alan Bissett presents When Billy Met Alasdair, a new play imagining a meeting between two Scottish icons, Billy Connolly and Alasdair Gray.
Bissett performs as both figures in a work that brings together humour, culture and Scottish identity, exploring what these two distinctive voices might have made of one another.
Alan Bissett is an award-winning novelist, playwright, and performer from Falkirk. He is the author of the novels Boyracers (2001), The Incredible Adam Spark (2005) and Death of a Ladies’ Man. He is most well-known for The Moira Monologues (2009), his acclaimed ‘one-woman show’, and When Billy Met Alasdair(2025), the play which he is bringing to Winter Words, in which he is performing as Billy Connolly and Alasdair Gray. Alan has also presented a BBC Scotland documentary, Inside the Mind of Robert Burns (2020), and in 2016 received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Stirling for his contribution to Scottish Culture.
