Wild Things: a night of drag, comedy and Queer Ecology

Page Navigation

Award winning drag king Bi-Curious George and glamorous slug-out-of-water Dr Elysia Chlorotica are teaming up to shatter the heteronormative lens through which we view the natural world.

Combining drag, comedy, music and serious scientific research, we’ll interrogate concepts of ‘normal’ and ‘natural’ and celebrate the abundant queerness of the natural world. Who decided how life gets named and sorted? What does that mean for all the creatures that refuse to conform? What can we learn about ourselves by looking to the other creatures we share this planet with? The term ‘unnatural’ has been weaponised about queer people for decades. It’s time to reclaim our place in the natural world.

Offstage, Elysia is Dr Em May Armstrong, a plant geneticist turned queer ecologist who wants to make science stranger, funnier and far more welcoming. Em works with justice-oriented, ecologically focused, and educationally empowering organisations. Bi-Curious George has been described by Graham Norton as “energetic and charming” and by The Spectator as “a chap, or maybe not a chap”. He aims to empower people to reframe their relationships to identity and their relationships to ‘nature’.
