Edinburgh University Chamber Choir
One of Scotland’s finest vocal ensemble’s, Edinburgh University Chamber Choir bring a fabulous programme of folksong, madrigals, sacred anthems and everything in-between to Pitlochry Festival Theatre. The repertoire spans hundreds of years, with a great variety of texture and colour.
The centrepiece of the programme, Poulenc’s ‘Sept Chansons’, is one of the composer’s earlier works, and indeed one of his first foray’s into choral composition. Poulenc was inspired by the madrigals of Claudio Monteverdi, two of which will also feature in the concert.
The choir regularly sings sacred repertoire, performing many of the most beautiful anthems of the last 1000 years. Alongside such pieces, the concert will focus on Scottish composers, including James MacMillan and Cecilia McDowall, as well as featuring arrangements of Scotland’s best loved folk songs.
The Artistic Director is Jack Oades, who is also Master of the Music at St Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh.
