Love Songs For Monsters
Pitlochry Festival Theatre presents
Love Songs for Monsters
By Hannah Lavery
Directed by Amber Sinclair–Case
He wants everything: your attention, your admiration, all your best lines.
More than a century after Bertolt Brecht created Baal, and decades after David Bowie played him, former Edinburgh Makar Hannah Lavery reimagines the story for today.
Ayla is a poet carrying a grief she cannot outrun.
Baal is charismatic, adored and has spent a lifetime turning himself into a legend.
When they meet, sparks ignite.
A challenge. A flirtation. A collision.
What begins as a chance encounter becomes an intense love affair that forces them both to confront the people they have become, and the people they have left behind.
Funny and fierce, Love Songs for Monsters is a love story, a reckoning, and a challenge to the enduring fantasy of the brilliant man.
Featuring original songs written by Hannah Lavery in collaboration with acclaimed Scottish musician Callum Easter.
This is not the story of a monster. It is the story of the woman who refused to disappear.
